Week 3: Post your Blog Entries as Comments to my Main Post Each Week

Post by Sunday at midnight.

Remember, if your post doesn't appear, it is in the filtered area courtesy of Google/Blogger. I have to look at it first, and then push it to the blog.

2. Will Electricity Be Delivered via Internet? Will the Internet have over 4 Billion Computers on It? (Thinking What Castells argued about "permanent developmental revolution" in an informational society.)

3. This short article has huge implications if this continues. Perhaps even electrical delivery will be made wireless, conducted via internet protocols? Castells argues that what makes these information networks of the current technological revolution (in comparison to previous ones) unique is that they penetrate everything of consequence in 'real life' in an endlessly revolutionizing manner of feedback loops between the four areas I described in lecture. This is a prime example of things that seem impossible that become real in 10 years?

Two related personal stories follows on how this endless revolution is changing me and my work styles. I have bought several external hard drives for years. Another 'impossibility' a few years ago was a 'one terabyte' storage drive (1 trillion bytes: 1,000,000,000,000 bytes on average or 1024 GB). My first one was 300 GB (gigabyes). Then one at around 500 GB. Hitachi invented and sold the first 1T drive in 2007. The price dropped last year, and I bought one. (Now at the same price for 2 terabytes. It is difficult to underestimate this endless technological revolution we are living in right now that it only at the most around 30-40 years old, with the mass web HTML experience only 15 years old.)

Second, I bought a laptop a few years ago even though I prefer a desktop computer. However, my laptop is faster than most computers that the university provides, so it has changed my work experience to move a laptop around with me sometimes. I bought a mini-netbook for a trip to Europe, which was crucial at several stages because 'keeping on the net' was important to me regarding work in Korea. I took the netbook everywhere on vacation, and I was seldom out of internet reach in reading or using Hangul characters, even if I was on the other side of Eurasia from Korea. I found it annoying though amazing nonetheless how "central" that little netbook was for my vacation--not only because I was using it, though everyone else was expecting me to be logged into the internet every day. Another change toward the informational world of digital technology: instead of taking printed documents about the trip, I took digital copies for reference.

However, among other topics, I worry about the health implications of more microwave radiation as a chosen communications medium when it is so damaging to human (and animal) bodies.

Korea to begin Web address overhaul in 2011

By Kim Tong-hyung

Korea will begin to roll out the next generation of Internet addresses for online devices next year to deal with the dwindling number of available Internet protocol (IP) addresses as the Web grows beyond computers.

According to officials at the Korea Communications Commission (KCC), the country will start updating its core Internet addressing system to a new format known as IP version 6 (IPv6) next June.

IPv6 will be first tested on commercial telecommunications services such as major search sites and electronic commerce (e-commerce) destinations, IP television (IPTV) and third-generation (3G) mobile telephony through a number of trial operations, KCC officials said.

The devices and networks for potential fourth generation (4G) communications systems Long Term Evolution (LTE) and mobile WiMAX will also be using IPv6.

However, the new format will not be immediately adopted on national communications networks such as electric power control systems and data communications networks where stability is paramount.

Internet service providers predict that about 45 percent of their subscriber networks will be switched to IPv6 by 2013, with their backbone networks completing the transition by then.

Every device that goes online is allocated a unique IP address, and the current format, IPv6, provides over 4 billion addresses. However, there are concerns that the pool of numbers is due to run out in the near future as more people around the world connect to the Web on an increasing number of devices.

The Korean government is just one of many that are pushing a switch to IPv6, which is hoped to provide billions of extra IP addresses as the Web begins to move beyond computers and mobile phones to virtually every consumer electronics device including televisions and domestic appliances [linked into the internet/network society].

The movement toward “cloud computing,” describing a new era of Internet usage in which information and software are delivered over the Web, rather than through desktop computers, is expected to accelerate the exhaustion of current Internet addresses as well by having more devices connected to the Web.

This has led to concerns about the possible shortage of addresses under IPv4.

The Korean aspirations to become one of the world’s first countries to convert its electricity networks into “smart grids” also explains the urgency for the IPv6 transition.

Smart grids, which can be bluntly described as the “electricity Internet,” deliver electricity from suppliers to consumers using information technology.

    2. Private details dangerous on the Net

    3. We are exposed everywhere on the Internet. Our private information is not private thing anymore. I think the Internet has two faces. For example, cyworld is private homepage. We can upload our pictures, diaries and so on. But they are exposed to everyone. So the Internet is private and public thing. Perhaps we forget the danger of Internet, because we always ues Internet. After I read this article, I thought about my private imformation again and I felt fear about information society. Iformation is very useful thing but in a view of individual, it can be a harmful thing.

    4. Even if relationships between fiends or couples break up in the real world, a number of people are having hard times dealing with nagging online traces of their past affections.

Personal information that they shared while the relationship was good can often become delicate and even embarrassing after separation.

Experts say online human relations lead to something they dubbed the “double ego.”

A 27-year-old woman - we’ll give her the pseudonym Han Eun-jeong - still logs into her former boyfriend’s online chat program. The woman broke up with him at the end of last year after they had been dating for five years.

Though he was officially out of her hair, he was not off of her mind.

She didn’t remove a program setting that automatically saves her former boyfriend’s chats, which also show up in her messenger program. In the process, Han has read all the chitchat between her former sweetheart and his new girlfriend.

She said this has caused her no end of emotional turmoil.

Han, who considers herself a sophisticated single woman, hates that she is still transfixed by these traces of her former lover.

Another woman - let’s call her Kim Mi-hye, 26 - who recently broke up with her boyfriend, says she’s hurt by photos of the couple that are still on his personal Cyworld home page.

Some of his friends who don’t know about the breakup already re-posted those photos on other pages, and Kim can’t do anything about it. It’s as if they are to remain forever as one in cyberspace.

Online traces can also become unexpected traps for some celebrities.

    2. For efficiency? or the extension of work hours?

    3. Since smartphones spread out all over Korea about a year ago, a number of companies have changed their work patterns in compatible with smartphones. Companies gave their employees smartphones with no costs for the reason that enhancing accessibilty and efficiency etc.

However, employees work hours are still the same as well as their wages nevertheless improved efficiency makes a reduction in companies budget. it seems that all the benefits from improved efficiency are taken by board members.

Furthermore, employees who received smartphones from a company have to work much more compared to before because they are always connected to the Internet which means that employees check out emails all the time whether or not they like to reply(a boss knows he/she can check an email all the time). With a full access to work all the time, employees cannot avoid works even if it's 9 p.m. by the reason of 'emergency work'

I obviously can tell smartphones are used to another form of a snare by companies.

    ----

4.The Korea Exchange Bank (KEB) is distributing smartphones to 6,000 employees as part of an initiative by its CEO Larry Klane to strengthen internal communication.

It is the first time in a move to beef up business efficiency, a KEB official said Sunday.
“Employees can work anytime and anywhere with smartphones. It will enhance our communication channels with customers,” the lender said in a press release.

KEB hoped that the lender could increase its brand image with the new technology as its new motto is “Smart Bank.”
Klane has emphasized mobile office use saying companies will gear up to establish “enterprise mobility.”

KEB has regularly discussed the issue at its “Smartphone Council” since earlier this year.
It also held two “Smartphone Lectures” inviting experts to educate employees on the potential of the electronic gadget.

The lender also signed a memorandum of understanding with SK Telecom in April to establish systems for smartphone banking and mobile credit card services.

    2. Relentless attack of vaccine programs

    3. Since personal computer has come into wide use, many people have been alerted to virus.(for example 'the worm' or '13th') And for this reason most people install vaccine program by downloading.

In these days even if you using only surf the Internet, you easily install various vaccine programs. These various vaccine programs mostly use a 'real time observation'. At first sight, we may think it is helpful in security. However this system is harmful rather than helpful. For example, when I took courses by PPT in my school, suddenly warning message displayed on screen. The more vaccine programs in PC, the more interruptions it is.

Moreover if you look at warning message, most of them is nothing. (As far as I remember vaccine programs recognize each other for virus.) Then now I use a vaccine program only one, and I don't use real time observation. See it this way, vaccine programs are more danger than viruses.

    -----------------------------------------------

Vaccine programs disturb PC as well as official desktop, and for this reason most people suffer much inconvenience. Vaccine programs like 'Clear Spy' or 'Info Pure' which damage to many computers seriously is widely installed by internet advertisement, and because of this measures are urgently needed.

If you turn on a computer, these vaccine programs warn that "dangerous files are found" or "some harmful files are found in your computer". These warning messages damage to many people rather than viruses.

And these programs disturb maliciously systems, and they warn that "It was susceptible to invasion of privacy, are you wanna cure this?". By repetition of messages, vaccine enterprise induce customs to pay. Even when I write an this article, vaccine programs attack my PC until the moment I pay.

Maybe everybody feels like shit by vaccine programs. Also even if you delete vaccine programs, some of them may act again. Thus some people think that "vaccine programs is like gangster".

According to some software expert, vaccine programs which sended by online are more danger rather than virus, and government departments like KCC(Korea Communications Commission) severely regulate vaccine enterprise.

    2. Facebook alternative Diaspora Rolls out first code

    3. Whether this attempt is humble or not, I think that case of Diaspora signifies decentralisation against hierarchical structure on the Internet, which is considered true purpose of the web. People's private information has been threaten by Facebook's reinforcement regarding securing its myriads users' personal data as monopolisation. Yet, fortunately new candidate's appearence seems quite encouraging because it means that the influential power of the former toward people can be weakened.
    _______

Their idea of building Diaspora started earlier this year during a period of intense criticism of Facebook, the world's largest social network.

The site, which boast 500 million members, was criticised for having overly complex and confusing privacy settings. It was eventually forced to roll out simplified controls.

"We want to put users back in control of what they share," Max Salzberg, one of the founders of Diaspora, told BBC News at the time

    2. ‘Smart pain’ on rise among phone users

    3. Today, in korea, smartphone is so popular that many people are now filling with their spare time. Smartphone has many applications that is useful to human's life. So, many people want to get smartphone and want to fill with their spare time by using smart phone. In this reasons, some people use smartphone for a long time. sometimes, they has no feeling in the fingers, because they use smartphone too many times. I think that smartphone is very useful device. but, sometimes it has a harmful effect on their body.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------
With the introduction of smartphones, people are now filling spare moments working, Web searching, blogging or playing mobile games. However, some smartphone users may face an unexpected side effect pain in their fingers and wrist.
Doctors say the number of people who complain about similar symptoms has been growing recently and some severe cases develop Carpal tunnel syndrome, which used to be more common among workers on assembly lines.
Carpal tunnel syndrome occurs when the median nerve, which runs from the forearm into the hand, becomes pressed or squeezed at the wrist. The median nerve controls sensations to the palm side of the thumb and fingers, as well as impulses to some small muscles in the hand that allow the fingers and thumb to move. Many people use a smartphone to check e-mail and do other work even in front of their computer. But unless you are on the move, it is better to use computers, which have wider screens and keyboards, they added.

    2. enter mobile market

    3. The popularity of smartphones, such as Apple’s iPhone, Samsung's Galaxy S, has increased consumers’ acceptance of using their mobile phones to make purchases. also without the need to carry a thick wallet, people can do anything.

Especially Retailers who complaing in high-payment fee are very welcoming stance

However, no customers can see and touch the cards, the card design which ever greater role in shaping the brand value is not only going to be meaningless also because all private data puts in the cell phone, security of personal information may be vulnerable

    4. Mobile payment technology allows users to pay for things using their mobile phones, doing away with credit cards. The TSM services make it safer and more efficient for users to download and process payment accounts on their mobile phones.

``With the smartphone craze in the U.S., the global mobile payment market is growing rapidly. The opportunities in this market are endless, with electronic payment market leader FDC and mobile innovation leader SK C&C working together to expand mobile payments,’’ said SK C&C chief executive officer Kim Shin-bae.

The Korean company will provide TSM services and m-wallet (electronic wallet) solutions, while FDC will be involved in marketing and sales. SK C&C and FDC will start providing mobile payment services in the U.S., Canada and Mexico early next year.

``We are uniquely positioned to succeed in the mobile commerce market, with FDC’s global e-payment expertise and SK C&C’s successful experience in mobile commerce,’’ said Edward Labry, president of FDC's retail and alliance services, in a statement.

FDC is a global technology and payments processing leader that serves more than six million merchant locations and thousands of card issuers in 36 countries

    2. Supermarkets go online to grab shoppers

    3. My hoobies is on-line shopping. I have fun time by doing window shopping in on-line. Today, People don't have to buy needs only off-line market. they clik to icon of Internet Explorer and open the market site, then buy what they want to. In the past time, most shopping site can't offer grocery which is inclined to go bad, but These days, thier site provide people with diverse service such as swift delivery which can make that fresh and many goods they can choose. I think it is convinent for a purchaser not to waste thier time, and energy required.

    4. ---------------------------------------------
Korea’s biggest supermarkets have finally caught the Internet bug after watching their stores increasingly lose shoppers.

Retailers have operated online shopping sites for years, but the variety of goods was poor and delivery was erratic.

Shoppers were also not so eager to shop online for groceries, as most believed they had to check the produce with their own eyes.

The situation has changed drastically compared to less than a decade ago, market watchers said.

Lifestyles are swiftly changing and people no longer want to spend hours weaving through supermarket aisles.

Even for major family gatherings, such as those during this week’s Chuseok holidays, many are opting to order online to avoid the lines and hassle.

The growing number of working women, coupled with smaller families, also seems to be behind changing shopping styles.

Furthermore, the market for regular stores is simply saturated.

Market watchers pointed out that there are more than enough stores per individual.

Starting this year, well-known retailers such as E-Mart, Homeplus and Lotte Mart have started to look online for business.

E-Mart, the kingpin among retailers, in July gave its Internet shop a major facelift.

The most significant feature was the availability of fresh goods, such as fish and other seafood.

It also makes up to 10 deliveries a day, an effort to reduce the time customers have to wait before they receive their groceries.

“We may be adding more deliveries, depending on the demand,” one E-Mart official said.

E-Mart also offers pick-up services. This way, customers can place orders online, then simply pick them up at the store at a designated time.

E-Mart said it was first a little skeptical about exactly how big a difference its website would have.

The results wiped out any doubts, with sales shooting up over 60 percent in the first week compared to the same period last year.

    Homeplus’ strategy was to personalize.

Shoppers are welcome to leave online memos on how they want their fish or meat prepared.

There were a few complaints in the beginning. Some shoppers complained about how their fish was cut.

The general opinion, however, appeared to be positive, as echoed in the growing sales.

Encouraged by the success, Homeplus is targeting a 1 trillion won ($858 million) increase in online sales by 2013.

Lotte Mart, a relative latecomer to the online market, is working to make up for lost time.

    2. the one who ever meet agian on chat.

    3. This is my personal experince on 1999. When I was 5th grade in elementary school, I have two computers in my house. One for my father, laptop, the other for me and my bro, PC. I used to chat unknown ppl by computer. It was a 'personal communication service(using telephone line)' not an Internet. The service name is 'Cheon-ri-an(means the eye can see so far)' which more expensive other services.
I can't remember what I said in such a young ages but I pretty enjoyed chatting. One day, I was on chat as usual, later, everyone in my chatroom gone except the one who doesn't talk(type) very much. She(maybe not) told me she had meet some guy had talk too rude to her. And we went to his chat room for arguement. I promise to back her up. Anyway, after all finshed, right before logout, we decided to meet tomorrow in hurried. I wait until midnight but whatever reason, we couldn't meet again.
Sometimes I wonder why just for a curious. Where's everybody I met on chat.

    2. Cyber Lecture

    3. As the Internet develped, students can study easily than ever before. In the past, in order to study students had to go to school or private educational institute in particular time and took a course directly. If they don't keep time, they can not take a lecture. But now, they can study anywhere through the Internet. If you have a computer and can use the Internet, you can take a lecture in anywhere, anytime. In addition to these advantage, this has the advantage of being repeated over and over again. In existing case, once the lecture passed they don't see this lecture again. On the other hand, cyber lecture is able to see that they want to see the contents, and it is possible that this is repeated several times if they don't understand part of the lecture.

    2. Internet(game) addiction

    3. These days, many people are addicted to internet. Every night I also sit in front of the computer and surf the Internet without aim. I only do it just out of habit.
Especially computer game addiction among teenagers is very serious. It can have bad effects on children. Because some games are really violent. And they spend too much time playing online games. It takes away from their time to study or other activity. Playing computer game for a long time is not good for health too.

    -------------------------

Korea shares treatment for Internet addiction with countries

Along with the benefits it has brought, Korea’s advanced high-speed communication network has also led to Internet addiction.
After a years-long struggle, however, Korea may be finding a way out of the dilemma and possibly even advise other countries that have recently had to face the issue.
In recent years, crimes or accidents related to Internet addiction have alarmed Korean society.

On Friday, the Suwon District Court sentenced a couple to a two-year jail term for negligence after their 3-month-old daughter starved to death, said court officials.
The 41-year-old husband and 25-year-old wife were both addicted to an online role playing game in which they, ironically, raised the virtual character of a young girl, according to officials.
Also, a worker in his 30s died of exhaustion in a Seoul Internet cafe after spending five consecutive days playing games.

The teen and pre-teen generations were apparently the most affected.
Some 12.8 percent of Korean teenagers were shown to be addicted to the Internet, according to the 2009 research by the Ministry of Public Administration and Security.
The figure was twice that of the 6.4 percent rate shown in the adult group.

Korea’s lead in Internet addiction figures has also led the country to develop an edge in treating the problem.
As the Internet addiction issue disturbs education offices and parents, some lawmakers and election candidates have made the issue their major concern.
Internet game addiction has become as critical an issue as excessive private education or rampant school violence, they said.

3.Addiction is such a strong word that makes us first think about: drugs, alcohol, smoking, sex and many other vices that are really complicated, especially when it comes to treatment.

As soon as I come back home, turn on the computer habitually. This is almost all Korean people are a habit.Inadvertently,They turn on the computer useless waste of time.

Serious problems are addicted to the Internet, people can not distinguish between real and virtual.

In modern society, human beings and the Internet is not a split. As for the current treatment of Internet addiction is a shortage of drugs and psychotherapy, with or it has been recommended. In some cases, using the computer environment strategies may be necessary to limit.
Above all, rely on your own needs the best.

    ------------------------

    1) While using your computer, someone asked you to lend him something that you love very much, but since you are hooked on B/R, you just answer: ”Sure! Use it, you don’t even need to ask. . .”

    2) When answering the comments on your article, you need to go to toilet, but you ignore the urge for a short time because you are completely absorbed in what you are writing.

    3) While sleeping, your dreams are repeatedly HTML, Upload, Like, Pick, Dig, LOG OUT…

    4) Your family is missing you so much, in spite of your being present in body. You’re more silent than ever.

    5) All the news they get about you, which prove you are still alive, are simply your disturbing continous clickings on the keyboard.

    6) Your friends have strange names such as: rocko, bob bob, Satan, angel. . .

    7) There is an important job to be done at home and everybody is sure that somebody else would do it. For sure, you’ll never do it because you’re writing/commenting on B/R. So It ends up that everybody blames somebody when nobody does what anybody could have done!

    8) You’re still working. . . never caring about the time, you keep on working online, till the morning breaks and the birds start singing outside your window.

    9) You drink from a coffee cup into which you’ve extinguished your cigarette.

    10) You set the alarm on your digital clock for 7pm instead of 7am.

    2. the Internet becoming more accessible to help people save money

3.Recently, the internet is called as 'the information of sea.' As people said, I also agreed on the internet is very useful to search for an information. Because the internet has mass amonut of text, photo, etc. Especially, we can find economical information from website to save money. This article talked about website which is devised by a mother for people who couldn't buy at local store.

    -------------------------------------

Erika Vitiene has developed a service called Grocery Dash, which customers can use to plan meals using her website, which uses sale items at local grocery stores.

The program, called Publix Curbside, will allow customers to order their groceries online and a personal shopper at the store will collect the items, ring them up and then deliver them to the customer in the parking lot, charging a $7.99 service fee.

It’s a great service for people who are willing to pay for the convenience of having the work done for them, in terms of the planning portion.

    2. Health and Internet

    3. Before electric light, we have to sit by a window or in a rooom open the sunbeam or near a candle after dark to read the book.
As internet is developing, we don't need to do to read the book.
    Computer sreen is always light.
    However it deprives our health.
Concentrating on a computer screen, for example, peaple wear a glasses commomly.

    --------------------------------------------

These days, there are lots of young peaple to do internet late at night.
They are called by night owl.
But this habit causes depression of 3 times than do not like that.
Short sleeping young peaple can break their balance of body. So it brings about mental illnesses like depression.

At first, reading the article, I was so surprised.
Although I am not a teenager, I also go to bed late night because of searching internet.
    My health....?
    And I was wondering.
There are many informations of health. Peaple can get it easier than old days peaple.
However, the more development of internet is, the more peaple get sick.
Paradoxically, development of internet is proportional to the number of peaple getting sick.
In this period, thing we need is not disposable knowledge-to know and to forget soon- but acting power about getting knowledge.

    2.Teen ‘haulers’ become a force
3.Nowadays, many people want to appeal themselves on the internet. For example, Youtube.
Many people updates their trival matter.
Some people updates their song..some people updates their family picture..etc.
Genre is really difference. And Here, in US, teen girls sell product through youtube.
I think it is really good idea. I really like on-line shopping. But, It is really hard to check product exactly. She put them on, and show through monitor. We can buy everything from internet also. But This marketing is really good idea.

    ----------------------------

LOS ANGELES -- When 14-year-old Bethany Mota gets back from the mall, she eagerly models her latest finds to friends and family.

And to tens of thousands more on YouTube.

The rising high school sophomore from Los Banos, California, is a “hauler,” a term for tech-savvy young fashionistas who show off their purchases, or hauls, in homemade videos that they post online. Bethany started hauling about a year ago and now has more than 48,000 YouTube subscribers who tune in to watch her show off her favorite back-to-school outfits (“you don‘t want to wear heels and stuff, obviously”), big-volume mascara (“this is like my new obsession”) and perfumes (“summer in a bottle right here!”).

“You get to connect with girls around the world, and that’s what reeled me in,” said the doe-eyed, fresh-faced teen, who could pass for Kim Kardashian‘s younger sister. “YouTube videos, they’re more personal and more real than a commercial on TV.”

    2. I cannot imagine the world that there is no phone.
    3. Smart phone and daily life is connected. Most people live with electronic equipment. Now we cannot live without it. We cannot imagine the world that there is no it. We are already addicted to smart world.
I also do. I see my phone although it isn't ringing and touch it to no purpose. If I don't get it, I'm nervous all day long. Phone is in a body. When I get to the bus stop, that I do first is to operate the application to inform bus' arrival time. When I get some time to rest, I operate the application to do twitter. Though the time I get my phone isn't long time, I cannot live without it.
    -----------------------------------------
    4. We can check the information about getting a job through the application by smart phone. Without inconvenient condition, we can search information automatically.

Now smart phone informs job information. As a university student, I'm interesting in it. Maybe it be more useful for seniorities. I'm happy to live in smart world. But, on the one hand, I'm some worried about phone's restriction.
